Bronxville Schools Superintendent Roy Montesano was forced to make a tough call on Tuesday, to have an emergency dismissal as water permeated portions of the first floor of the school, mainly from Meadow Avenue. Montesano noted that both water pumps are working at full capacity, despite the flooding. He said they may have helped avoid a more significant flooding event.
Montesano said that they have a crew of more than 50 contracted employees at the building who are removing the water and dehumidifying the affected spaces. Once the cleanup is complete and the spaces are dry, they have an industrial hygienist scheduled to test the spaces and ensure that it is safe to return to the building.
According to Montesano, in order for this cleanup process to occur, the building will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 26, including all after-school activities. Montesano said that parents can expect an update on Wednesday afternoon.
